Top 5 Fashion Trends For Summer 2011

If you are doing a little shopping for the summer season there are a few things that you won’t want to forget to add to your wardrobe. A new season always means new fashions. And, there’s lots of new styles to choose from this summer. While some styles have held on strong from last summer, new trends are here to spice up your summer outfits.

Florals arrived with spring flowers and are still hot for the summer months as well. Designers have incorporated floral designs into everything from dresses to shoes. Even if you aren’t a big fan of floral patterns you still should have at least one floral dress in your closet. Available in both vivid and pastel colors, florals are the in thing for this season.

When it comes to fit, the trend is looser this season. While it’s always a good idea to have a great pair of skinny jeans on hand, this years styles are geared toward a loose flowing design. Trouser legs are wider like the popular style in the 70’s. And, a lot of dresses, skirts and trousers will have pleats to add even more flow.

One of the most popular colors for summer has always been white and this summer is no different. White adds a clean fresh feel to your wardrobe and is the perfect color for any occasion. And, because lace is another popular trend this year you will find a lot of fashions that are adorned with lace. If you want to add some color, use accessories such as belts, scarves and jewelry.

While white is and always will be a great color for summer, this year vivid colors and tribal prints are giving white some competition. No color is off limits this year. You will see a lot of clothing and jewelry items in bright yellows, oranges, purples and even neon colors. Instead of your basic tribal prints, designers have taken them a step further and jazzed the patterns up with geometric designs. These styles make a bold statement and they are flattering on any type of figure.

Major Changes Expected In The Fashion Retail Industry Next Year

Not everyone that works in retail depends on commission checks to make ends meets. In fact, many members of the fashion industry are still doing quite well despite the current state of the economy. Although sales fell, financial experts believe that profits should improve about 3.5% over the next quarter in the fashion industry. With each new graduating class, fashion companies, department stores and designers are able to pick from the cream of the crop. Those that don’t make the cut end up working lower paying jobs until they are able to prove their worth. But whats worse is that high ranking employees have not been able to get the raises and bonuses that they expect because of lagging sales.

Approximately 70% of all employees in the industry such as fashion merchandisers, designers and event organizers are planning changing employers within the next year. For some, this means going into advertising and marketing while others are planning to move to another part of the world in order to find more employment opportunities. With fewer applicants, and many more open positions, employers may have to increase their salaries in order to attract the best in the industry. Fashion, like other industries, is suffering from the effects of an unstable economy.

Some members of the fashion industry aren’t giving up on their passion. Those that are dedicated to fashion are electing to work in retail part-time while they earn the majority of their income in other sectors. Others are moving on for now, but they have vowed to come back when things turn around.
